Crochet Sun Hat

As someone who lives in the sunny Mediterranean I know first hand how essential it is to protect our skin from the sun’s rays especially during the long sweltering summer months! One important way is to wear a wide brimmed hat to protect our head and face from the hot sun. The last couple of sun hats that I’ve purchased have fallen apart pretty quickly and I thought why not crochet a more durable one for myself? I wanted to find a pattern that was pretty yet functional at the same time and I decided to go with the Solara Sunhat pattern by the lovely MJ’s off the Hook Designs.

What sold me on this pattern was the use of the pretty shell stitch coupled with the wide brim of this hat! I used around 3 and a half skeins of Drops Paris cotton yarn in the colour Desert Rose to make this hat and a size J (6.0mm) hook throughout to meet the gauges that the pattern called for. I managed to work this hat up pretty quickly and I love the way it looks when worn! I’ll definitely be wearing this regularly throughout the summer and of course to our many beach days!
